Attention, patients with hypothyroidism using Thyronorm tablets!
Abbott India has issued a public notice regarding the recall of Thyronorm 25 mcg tablets — batch no. AEJ0713 — which were manufactured in March 2023 with an expiry of February 2025.
If you or your loved ones are being treated for hypothyroidism and are taking Thyronorm, it is important to check the batch number of your medication to ensure that it is not affected by the recall.
A public notice issued by Abbott Indian Limited warned Thyronorm users of a labelling error. The notice said that the 88 mcg tablets were “mistakenly labelled as 25 mcg”.
However, the notice also read that the labeling error in a “small percentage of bottles from this batch, which have been mislabeled with the dose strength as 25mcg, whereas the bottles contain 88mcg tablets.”
The notice also said that this batch has been invoiced only in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. “This issue does not affect extend to any other batch or dosage strength of Thyronorm or other Abbott products,” the notice read.
Meanwhile Abbott warned patients who have recently purchased Thyronorm to check the batch numbers and return the product to a nearby pharmacy or where it was purchased from.
Several doctors took to Twitter and WhatsApp groups to pass around the public notice and issued warning against taking this batch drug.

Doctors South First spoke to said that if you have been taking Thyronorm 25 mcg tablets of batch no. AEJ0713, you should immediately stop taking the medication and contact your healthcare provider.
“Your healthcare provider can advise you on the next steps to take, such as switching to a different medication or adjusting your dosage. It is important to follow any guidance or instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure that your hypothyroidism is effectively managed,” Dr Sanjay G, a physician from Bengaluru, said.
He also clarified that the notice clearly states that the drug has been circulated in only the two mentioned states and only the mentioned batch number.
“So if anyone is taking a different strength or batch of Thyronorm, you do not need to be concerned,” he said.
Thyronorm is a commonly-prescribed medication for hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.
The recall is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of patients and to prevent any potential harm.
