Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals Hyderabad, has been awarded the 2025 Ambuj Nath Bose Prize by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), London, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the field of endoscopy.

The honour marks a historic moment for Indian medicine, as Dr Reddy becomes only the second Indian to receive this prestigious award since Dr C Gopalan was recognised in 1998.

The Ambuj Nath Bose Prize, established in 1954 at the request of Lieutenant Colonel Ambuj Nath Bose (1890–1948), recognises outstanding research in medical fields chosen by the RCP Council.

The award ceremony will take place during the RCP’s annual Harveian Oration, one of the world’s oldest scientific lecture events, celebrating scientific excellence and medical innovation.

The distinguished tradition dating back to 1656 when it was established by William Harvey, the English physician who discovered blood circulation and is regarded as the father of modern physiology.

The prize is awarded every two to three years to medical professionals who demonstrate exceptional research and innovation in their respective fields.

Recognition of pioneering work

Dr Reddy’s selection for the 2025 prize acknowledges his ground-breaking work in therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy and his significant contributions to advancing medical science in gastroenterology. His innovations have had a substantial impact on global healthcare practices.

“This distinguished event encourages the advancement of medical science through rigorous research and experimentation, honouring exceptional achievements within the field,” noted AIG Hospitals in a statement. “The AIG Hospitals family proudly congratulates Professor Reddy for exemplifying leadership in medical innovation and continuing to inspire the global medical community.”

Chief Minister’s congratulations

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy extended his congratulations to Dr Nageshwar Reddy on receiving the honour. “This recognition is a great honour for Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the field of medicine, especially in endoscopy,” the Chief Minister said.

He expressed hope that Dr Reddy would continue to achieve greater success in the areas of medical science and healthcare, noting that the recognition brings pride to the state of Telangana and the nation.
