Hyderabad civil court restrains VRK from giving medical advice; orders 23 media outlets to remove posts
The respondents include Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, besides news and media outlets including TV9 Telugu, NTV, ABN Andhra Jyothy, V6 News, TV5 News, Sakshi Life and Mahaa News.
Synopsis: A Hyderabad civil court has restrained Veeramachineni Rama Krishna from dispensing medical advice and ordered 23 respondents to remove specified posts. The interim order follows an HRDA suit over VRK’s health claims, alongside a separate police case involving a Type 1 diabetes patient who alleged he was advised to stop insulin.
The City Civil Court in Hyderabad has restrained Veeramachineni Rama Krishna, popularly known as VRK, from dispensing medical advice, curative protocols and treatment recommendations to the public, while directing online platforms including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to remove specified posts.
Veeramachineni Rama Krishna, popularly known as VRK, is a Telugu-speaking wellness and diet promoter known for advocating a low-carbohydrate, high-fat dietary programme, through television interviews, YouTube and social media.
The court order came in a case filed by the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA).
HRDA’s court filings state that VRK himself has said he is not a doctor and has no connection with the medical profession.
The ad-interim injunction was passed on September 23 by the XXVI Additional Chief Judge, City Civil Court, Hyderabad. The order will remain in force until October 7, when the matter has been posted for further hearing.
“In view the circumstances there shall be ad-interim injunction directing the respondents no. 1 to 23 to remove and delete all the posts in all media platforms mentioned in URLs of the petition schedule from posting or passing any remarks against the modern scientific medicine (Allopathy) and in connection to the medical profession of the petitioners and dispensing any medical advice, curative protocols and treatment recommendations to the mass public, tweets, conducting, protocols etc., in any manner,” the court said.
Reacting to the order, the HRDA said: “The Court has directed Respondent Nos. 1 to 23 to remove and delete the identified posts/content said by Veeramachineni Ramakrishna (VRK) from the media and social-media platforms specified in the petition schedule, and restrained them from further publishing or circulating such content. The order also restrains the dissemination of remarks against Modern Scientific Medicine (Allopathy) and the medical profession, and the dispensing of medical advice, curative protocols or treatment recommendations to the public through the identified platforms.”
VRK is respondent No. 1 in the case. The other respondents include Facebook India Online Services, Meta Platforms, Instagram Meta Platforms and YouTube Inc/Google LLC.
The media and content platforms named in the case include Rajanikanth Janapaksham, SumanTV Podcast/Health, iDream Media/iDream Super Doctor, Socialpost Health/Socialpost TV, Suvarna Media Health, TV9 Telugu Live, NTV Telugu, ABN Andhra Jyothy, V6 News, TV5 News, Sakshi Life, Mahaa News, Gold Star Entertainment and Koluguri 24/7 News TV.
The order also identifies the material that HRDA placed before the court. The schedule includes interviews and social media posts spanning several years, beginning with a Mahaa News interview uploaded on YouTube on January 26, 2018. It also lists an NTV Telugu interview from September 2021 and later material from VRK Healthcare, Suvarna Health Media, Rajanikanth Janapaksham, Socialpost Health, Sakshi Life and TV9 Telugu, along with Facebook and Instagram posts.
What is HRDA’s case against VRK?
HRDA’s court filings challenge VRK’s health and disease-related claims, including those concerning diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, psoriasis, obesity and other chronic conditions.
HRDA has also raised objections to statements attributed to VRK about modern medical treatment and allopathic doctors.
In its filings, HRDA referred to VRK’s own statement that he is not a doctor and has no connection with the medical profession.
The filing quotes him as saying: “I am not a doctor, as some might think or address me. I have no connection to the medical profession. I studied in an accounts background and settled in the printing business.”
HRDA has alleged that despite not having a recognised medical qualification, VRK has been providing advice relating to diseases and treatment through his public appearances and online content.
The civil court proceedings come alongside a separate criminal case registered against VKR by the Raidurgam police. The case was resgistered based on the complaint of Kalleda Sai Krishna.
According to his complaint, Sai Krishna has Type 1 diabetes and had been dependent on insulin since 2018. He said he watched VRK’s videos before visiting the VRK Health Care Centre on September 12, 2025.
Sai Krishna alleges that he was advised at the centre to stop insulin and follow the VRK Diet protocol. He says he paid about ₹26,000 for diet-related services and supplements. 86c4a09b-9a17-4a45-af69-dec4680.
According to the complaint, two days later he was admitted to KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad, where he was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and severe dehydration.
Sai Krishna has asked police to investigate the advice allegedly given at the centre, as well as its registration and licences and the legal status of supplements sold there.
The Raidurgam police registered the FIR on September 24 under multiple provisions, including Section 54 of the National Medical Commission Act and provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, along with relevant provisions of the BNS.
The allegations in the complaint are yet to be established through the police investigation.
