Synopsis: The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation has accused Parle Products of failing to collect and replace expired food items, risking public health. In letters to the Health Ministry and FSSAI, it urged urgent intervention, stricter enforcement, and mandatory SOPs for safe disposal.
The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) has raised alarm over alleged lapses by Parle Products Pvt Ltd in collecting and replacing expired and damaged food items from its distributor network.
In letters addressed to Union Health Minister JP Nadda and FSSAI CEO Rajit Punhani on 21 April, 2026, the federation warned that such negligence risks expired goods entering the consumer market, posing a serious public health threat.
AICPDF President Dhairyashil Patil noted that despite repeated follow-ups, the company has failed to act, leading to accumulation of unsafe products at distributor points.
The federation has urged immediate corrective measures, including removal and safe destruction of expired goods, compensation for distributors, and strict enforcement of compliance.
The letters also call for a mandatory Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) across the food industry to ensure accountability in handling expired and damaged products.
Copies of the communication have been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and FSSAI, underscoring the urgency of regulatory intervention.
