As Hyderabad has witnessed a spike in dengue cases since July, the Department of Health, along with the Municipal Health Department, has decided to conduct a fever survey in all the municipalities in the state.

There were 542 dengue cases in July and 1,827 cases in August in the jurisdiction of Greater Hyderabad Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.

Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama in a joint meeting on Monday, 5 September, announced that both the health and municipal departments will conduct fever surveys across all the municipalities.

“Dengue cases are increasing in Hyderabad city and other districts also. In areas where dengue cases are high, medical staff should conduct door-to-door fever surveys in coordination with GHMC officials,” said the Health Minister Harish Rao.

He said the municipal and panchayat departments, along with the health department, will work together to contain the surge in dengue cases in the state.

“Also, along with the entomology department of GHMC, the medical and health personnel should go to every house and sensitise them about dengue cases and prevention of dengue. All measures should be taken to prevent mosquitoes. It should be well advertised through TV and radio,” said Harish Rao.

Free medicines, treatment

The Health Minister said that if, during the survey, people are detected with fever, they will be encouraged to go to Basti Dawakhana.

“RAT kits for dengue have been made available in Basti hospitals for diagnosis of dengue cases. If you get a fever, you should immediately go to Basti Dawakhana and get treatment. We provide free tests and treatment through T Diagnosis,” said the health minister.

The health minister also said that the increase in cases are also due to enforcement. “The cases have increased due to 27 thousand tests done through T diagnosis in the last month and a half,” said the health minister.

He added that along with this fever survey, the GHMC staff and medical staff should work together to administer the Covid19 vaccine booster dose to everyone in the limits of GHMC.

Blood donation camp on 17 September

The health minister also announced that 10,000 units of blood will be collected on the occasion of National Integration Day.

“On September 17, we will arrange a blood donation camp in Hyderabad and surrounding constituencies to give free blood to the people on behalf of the Medical and Health Department,” said the health minister.

He added that enough platelets separator machines are available with the government.

“The Medical and Health Department has made all arrangements to give as much blood as needed for free. Doctors, medicines and equipment are ready in every government hospital.”
