Fraudulent practices involving its name have been haunting the National Medical Commission (NMC) for some time.
Now, there’s a new problem: Someone impersonated the chairman of the country’s apex medical education body.
Earlier this month, a fraudulent circular regarding the Postgraduate (PG) NEET exam by the National Medical Commission (NMC) was disseminated across the country.
Taking note of the impersonation attempt, the NMC issued a cautionary statement, alerting the public to be wary of an individual who is posing as the commission’s Chairman Dr BN Gangadhar.
The impersonator is reportedly using a specific mobile number to interact with others.
In response to this situation, the Establishment Section of the commission has released a public notice urging the masses to exercise caution and avoid any communication with the person associated with the mentioned mobile number.
Addressing the issue of impersonators, NMC mentioned in the public notice: “It has come to our attention that an individual with the mobile number +919062719187 is impersonating Dr BN Gangadhar, chairman of the National Medical Commission.”
The commission clarified: “It is to be informed that this mobile number does not belong to Dr BN Gangadhar, chairman, NMC.”
The NMC mentioned in the notice that it would not take any responsibility if any individual gets involved in any such conversations.
“Any individual taking cognizance or acting on such conversations does so at their own risk,” said the commission.
“This notice is issued to safeguard the public from any misinformation and to prevent any unauthorized activities carried out by the impersonator,” it added.
In the past, the commission has repeatedly issued warnings to the public cautioning against fraudulent notices circulating under its name.
In a previous report by Medical Dialogues, it was highlighted that in December 2023, the NMC provided a clarification on the authenticity of a letter supposedly signed by the Under Secretary of the NMC PG Board.
The falsified letter claimed the recognition of CPS degrees for students undergoing training. On 14 December, 2023, the NMC released a notice categorising the mentioned letter as fake and advising doctors to be wary of such deceptive communications.
Emphasising the risks involved, the notice explicitly states that any individual who acknowledges or acts upon such communications does so entirely at their own risk.
This notice aims to protect the public from misinformation and unauthorised activities orchestrated by the impersonator.
