Karnataka's Women and Child Welfare Minister, Lakshmi R Hebbalkar, presided over the inauguration ceremony of Malabar Group's 'Grandma Home' dedicated to underprivileged women. (PTI)
Malabar Group, a prominent Indian business conglomerate, has officially launched the ‘Grandma Home’, a facility aimed at supporting destitute women in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Malabar Charitable Trust, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Malabar Group, is behind this initiative.
Laxmi R Hebbalkar, the Minister for Women and Child Development, Disabled and Senior Citizen Empowerment, presided over the event. Several key figures from the Malabar Group and local leaders were present.
During the event, the Minister also inaugurated the Educational Scholarship Programme for female students and the Hunger Free World Project in Karnataka.
Notable political figures like R Ashoka and NA Haris were in attendance.
The Grandma Home provides free shelter, food, medical assistance, and comprehensive healthcare services for women in need.
The facility spans 14,780 sq ft over a three-storey building. Its capacity can accommodate up to 104 women, offering a comfortable and safe living environment.
Furthermore, the home is equipped to cater to the specific needs of elderly women. A dedicated medical team and trained social workers specialising in elderly care are available 24/7 on-site.
The ground floor of the facility houses a dialysis centre, clinic, and pharmacy. It also has a well-equipped kitchen to prepare clean and healthy food.
Since its establishment in 1993, Malabar Group has dedicated 5 per cent of its profits to fulfilling welfare commitments in various domains, including health, education, environment, women empowerment, and housing.
To date, the group has invested over ₹215 crore in CSR activities, benefiting 56.84 lakh beneficiaries across India.
MP Ahammed, chairman, of Malabar Group, expressed his gratitude to the authorities in Bengaluru for their support in making Grandma Home a reality.

“Malabar Charitable Trust has been working continuously to support individuals and communities that are marginalised and lack access to basic amenities to lead a life with dignity. We are committed to giving back to the society in which we live,” he said.
He emphasised the group’s commitment to bringing positive change to the lives of underprivileged individuals and communities, particularly women.
“Building Grandma Home is part of that vision to bring transformative changes to the lives of people from the underprivileged section of our society. We are confident that the home will offer comfort and joy to all the women in need,” he added.
