Bengaluru is a melting pot of art and culture. Adding to this pot is Dewar’s Stay Curious HQ by Dewar’s Xperiences that is gearing up to enter the city with a bang!

In its third chapter across India, expect to witness an array of audio-visual exhibits, musical performances, and mixed-method performance art, among others.

“As a cultural hub and a cosmopolitan centre, Bengaluru is an important market for us to bring a variety of extraordinary exhibits and performances across the spaces of music, dance, and gastronomy. This edition is the third chapter of Dewar’s Stay Curious HQ in 2023, after the alluring showcases in Mumbai and Hyderabad. We are bringing a specially curated lineup of artists, exhibits, and performances from Bengaluru and across India,” says Vijay Dev, the spokesperson.

Collaborative storytelling

One of the key experiences at the event is ‘Sustain,’ a contemporary theatrical created by DJ Murthovic, Carnatic singer Gopika Jairam, and Bharatanatyam dancer Anahita Chaliha.

Told through movement and melody, the production delves into the delicate relationship between humanity and the environment.

The idea was to dive into an audio-visual narrative that scrutinizes the present and speculates on the future of mankind, through sound and movement. “Our act is a paradox that celebrates the things that make us different from one another while being unified in our experience as social animals,” shared Murthovic. He hopes that their work will explore the routes to escape the mundane, through fleeting moments of respite found in the experience of art.

On participating at the showcase, the sound designer adds, “I have a soft corner for creative collaborations. I have known my collaborators Anahita and Gopika for a while. Anahita comes with strong abilities for storytelling through movement. Coupled with Gopika’s vocal range, I thought I could curate and design an auditory expedition that culminates in collaboration.”

Get immersive

An immersive art exhibit titled ‘Overture’ will also be held as part of the event. Created by visual artist BigFat (aka Aniruddh Mehta) and creative technologist Myles Pereira, the 14-minute piece combines a sci-fi abstraction of flashlights, geometric forms, organic topologies and textures to create a dynamic visual landscape. Accompanied by an original soundtrack, it will add depth and emotional resonance to the visuals.

“There are multiple inspirations behind Overture. The hustle and bustle of Mumbai, finding peace within it, 2001: A Space Odyssey are a few of them,” shares Myles.

He adds, “It’s a great opportunity to get our work seen by people in different parts of the country. We had it showcased in Mumbai last November but always wanted people around the country to experience it. We’re happy to see more brands collaborate with artists and get new media to the forefront.”
