Bengaluru enters world stage, makes a debut at World Cities Culture Forum in São Paul

Represented by UnboxingBLR, the tech city made its debut at the WCCF forum, becoming the first Indian city to join the global network.

Bengaluru, famed for its technological excellence and cultural heritage, marked its first-ever participation in the World Cities Culture Forum (WCCF). It was held in São Paulo, Brazil from October 25 to 27, 2023.

The conference convened delegates from over 40 global cities to engage in discussions spanning various areas. This included culture, nightlife, policy frameworks, government support, and the impact of technology on creative industries.

Nurturing the cultural landscape

UnboxingBLR represented Bengaluru at the WCCF conference.

“Far beyond its economic impact, a city’s cultural heritage is an important indicator of a thriving and vibrant city. UnboxingBLR is a unique initiative to nurture Bengaluru’s cultural landscape,” said Malini Goyal, founder, of UnboxingBLR Foundation.

“The WCCF offers an important peer network for us to understand what we can do in Bengaluru to make things better,” she added.

At the conference, Malini Goyal also addressed the opening plenary on the topic of ‘Courage, culture and leadership in a new world’ and on ‘Creative industries: how can cities work with commercial creativity?’

Commitment to culture

Justine Simons, Deputy Mayor of London, and founder of WCCF, welcomed Bengaluru as the first Indian city to join the global network.

“Together, we share a commitment to the culture being a golden thread in cities, supporting jobs, economies, tourism, and, of course, quality of lives,” said Justine, on the first day of the conference.

Bengaluru’s recent inclusion in the World Cities Culture Forum (WCCF) signifies the city’s growing stature as a global cultural hub.
