Anticipation for director Nag Ashwin’s magnum opus, Kalki 2898 AD, has surged over the past week. As its 27 June release date approaches, bookings for the first day are skyrocketing. Notably, this one will be the first Indian film screened across all 210 IMAX screens, available in 2D and 3D versions in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

According to Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD could become the third Indian film, after RRR (2022) and
Baahubali: The Conclusion
(2017), to achieve an opening of ₹200 crore at the worldwide box office. The report suggests the film is expected to gross ₹120-140 crore in India on its opening day.

In the Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), it is projected to open with ₹90-100 crore, while North India is expected to contribute around ₹20 crore. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are likely to add over ₹15 crore to the film’s opening day earnings.

The pre-sales business for Kalki 2898 AD is showing stronger signs than Salaar: Part 1–Ceasefire (2023). With the right momentum on its first day, the Nag Ashwin film could surpass the Prashanth Neel directorial, securing the third-biggest opening for an Indian film ever.

Salaar opened with a gross collection of ₹165.3 crore, while KGF 2 (2022) follows closely with ₹162.9 crore.

According to the ticketing platform BookMyShow, over 36,000 tickets for Kalki 2898 AD were sold within the first 60 minutes, with all tickets for Telangana shows selling out. More than 2,00,000 tickets have been sold across India for the film’s first day, and with many multiplexes yet to open bookings, this figure could easily double.

Prathyangira Cinemas, the distributor for Kalki 2898 AD in North America, announced on social media that 1,25,000 tickets had been sold there, generating over $2.7 million in revenue.

According to the latest update, the new government in Andhra Pradesh has permitted an increase in ticket prices for Kalki 2898 AD during its first two weeks of release. The YCP government had stopped this practice, but since Chandrababu Naidu came into power, the hike in ticket rates has been allowed. Ticket prices have been increased by ₹75 for single screens and ₹100 for multiplexes. As a result, each multiplex ticket now costs ₹399, including all taxes. This hike is expected to significantly boost Kalki 2898 AD at the box office.
