Watchlist: Major Tamil films releasing in September

This month, the Tamil film industry will witness an ensemble of actors coming together for a variety of projects.

Vendhu Thaninthathu Kaadu silambarasan

Vendhu Thaninthathu Kaadu

Vendhu Thaninthathu Kaadu is an action drama featuring Silambarasan and Siddhi Idnani in lead roles. Raadhika Sarathkumar, Siddique and Neeraj Madhav will be seen in supporting roles.

Gautam Vasudev Menon is the director and Ishari K Ganesh is the producer. B Jeyamohan is the writer and AR Rahman is the music director. The story deals with the plight of migrant workers and Silambarasan would be seen in five different avatars.

The actor is collaborating with Gautam Menon for the third time for Vendhu Thaninthathu Kaadu after Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaa and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. The movie is releasing worldwide on 15 September.

Agilan

Jayam Ravi, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Tanya Ravichandar and Harish Uthaman-starrer Agilan is a high-octane action thriller directed by N Kalyana Krishnan.

It is produced by Screen Scene Media Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Sam CS is the music composer. Jayam Ravi is playing a gangster in the flick, which has been shot extensively on the Indian Ocean.

It is all set to hit the screens on 15 September.

Sinam

Arun Vijay and Palak Lalwani’s Sinam is up for release on 16 September. Kali Venkat is playing a key role in it.

This action thriller is directed by GNR Kumaravelan and produced by R Vijaykumar under the banner of Movie Slides Pvt. Ltd. Shabir is the music director.

The movie was delayed due to the Corona pandemic.

Ponniyin Selvan-1

Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited epic period drama Ponniyin Selvan-1 is releasing worldwide on 30 September in standard and IMAX formats.

It stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar and Prakash Raj in key roles.

AR Rahman composed the music for this first edition of two-part series. Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran are producing it under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel with the same title. It was shot across India and also in Thailand.

Pisasu 2

Director Mysskin’s upcoming horror film Pisasu 2 is a sequel to his 2014 film Pisasu. It has Andrea Jeremiah and Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead roles. The other cast includes Rajkumar Pitchumani, Poorna and Namita Krishnamurthy.

Supposed to be released on 31 August, the film was postponed after the Censor Board gave it an A certificate. Currently, the makers are busy reapplying for U/A certificate.

The dubbed versions of the movie will be released in other south Indian languages too. T Muruganathan is the producer and Karthik Raja is the music director.
