Vishwak Sen’s ‘Gangs of Godavari’ to stream on Netflix starting 14 June

As per reports, 'Gangs of Godavari' grossed ₹20.50 crore worldwide at the box office.

Krishna Chaitanya’s directorial, Gangs of Godavari, featuring Vishwak Sen, Neha Sshetty, and Anjali in the lead roles, was released in theaters on 31 May. The movie will be available for streaming on Netflix, following two weeks after its theatrical debut; in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Netflix has unveiled a new trailer for Gangs of Godavari, announcing its release on the platform on 14 June.

The trailer reveals Ratna (played by Vishwak Sen) as a determined man who ascends to political prominence through relentless struggle. It also portrays his love story with Bujji (Neha), leading to a family, yet facing multiple adversaries jeopardising his peace.

Ratna is depicted as fiercely ambitious, driven by his relentless pursuit of power. Set against the coastal backdrop of Andhra Pradesh, Gangs of Godavari unfolds over several decades.

Regardless of the box office performance, the trend of brief theatrical releases for recent films is concerning.

VV Gopala Krishna’s Krishnamma (2024), starring Satyadev, premiered on Amazon Prime Video merely a week after its theatrical debut in May.

Gangs of Godavari, the profitable venture

Following suit, Gangs of Godavari marks the second Telugu film in the recent past to adopt this approach with a short theatrical window.

As per reports, Gangs of Godavari grossed ₹20.50 crore worldwide at the box office.

The film surpassed the one-week earnings of other recent releases such as Gopichand’s Bhimaa (2024) and Vishwak Sen’s Gaami (2024).

Unlike most Telugu films that have explored politics and power dynamics against the backdrop of places like Rayalaseema and Telangana, here’s a film that showcases Godavari in a different light altogether, read the review of South First.

The film is bankrolled by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under their banner Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas.
