Vikranth, Shabeer Kallarakkal join Sivakarthikeyan’s film with AR Murugadoss

The director's most recent venture was the 2020 film 'Darbar', starring Rajinikanth. The movie received mixed reviews upon its theatrical release.

Actor Vikranth, who appeared earlier this year in Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam, has joined the cast of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming Tamil film, directed by AR Murugadoss.

Tentatively titled SK 23, the makers, announced the news on social media, also noting that shooting is in full swing.

Vikranth made his acting debut with Karka Kasadara (2005), directed by RV Udayakumar. Other notable films of the actor include Pandianadu (2013), Gethu (2016), Suttu Pidikka Utharavu (2017), Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu 2 (2019), and Bakrid (2019).

In an interview, Vikranth mentioned that he initially worked on masala entertainers, not realising they didn’t suit him. Eventually, it dawned on him to take a different path, leading to significant changes in his career.

Shabeer Kallarakkal, who gained recognition for his role as Dancing Rose in Ranjith’s 2021 film Sarpatta Parambarai, is also part of the cast for SK 23.

He debuted in Malayalam cinema with King of Kotha (2023) and in Telugu cinema with Naa Saami Ranga (2024), portraying antagonistic roles in both films.

SK 23 was announced in September of last year, and filming began this February. This one marks the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and director AR Murugadoss. Notably, Murugadoss wrote the story for the actor’s sports comedy, Maan Karate besides, co-producing it.

Hitmakers again join forces

Rukmini Vasanth, known for her role in Sapta Sagaradaache Ello (2023), is making her Tamil debut as the female lead in Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming film, ACE. Meanwhile, Vidyut Jammwal, known for his role in Thuppakki (2012), is reuniting with director AR Murugadoss for SK 23.

Anirudh Ravichander, who had worked with Sivakarthikeyan in films like Ethir Neechal (2013), Maan Karate (2014), and Doctor (2021), is handling the music for this film.

The composer had also worked with Murugadoss on Vijay’s Kaththi (2014) and Rajinikanth’s Darbar (2020).

SK 23 features cinematography by Sudeep Elamon, renowned for his work on the 2020 Malayalam thriller Ayyappanum Koshiyum and Dijo Jose Antony’s 2022 political thriller Jana Gana Mana. The editing is handled by Sreekar Prasad, and the film is produced by Sri Lakshmi Movies.
