Popular actor, producer, director, and music director Vijay Antony suffered serious injuries in a major mishap at Langkawi, Malaysia. He was shooting for his upcoming film Pichaikkaran 2 when the accident occurred. The actor is returning to Chennai on 19 January.

The unit of Pichaikkaran 2, being produced by Vijay Antony’s own production house, went to Langkawi to shoot some portions of the movie.

While they were shooting a sequence on a boat, it reportedly collided with another vessel and the actor sustained a few serious injuries to his face.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment. The actor is stable and is under doctors’ observation.

Film producer Dhananjayan, who is also a good friend of the actor, told South First that Vijay Antony is fine now. “He sustained some injuries to his face but he is stable. They will probably return to Chennai on 19 January.”

When asked whether the actor would be undergoing surgery in Chennai, as was being reported in a section of the media, the producer asserted that no surgery has been planned.

Pichaikkaran 2 is a sequel to the critically-acclaimed blockbuster film Pichaikkaran. Directed by Sasi, it featured Vijay Antony in the lead. Interestingly, the sequel is directed by the actor himself.

Che’s daughter & granddaughter in Chennai

National Award-winning Tamil film director Raju Murugan met up with the daughter and granddaughter of world-famous communist leader Che Guevara in Chennai on Wednesday, 18 January.

Raju Murugan’s critically-acclaimed film Joker, which took potshots at the political system, won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 2016.

He said he got the opportunity to meet Dr Aleida Guevara and professor Estefina through a friend in the Communist Party of India (Marxist). “The women are touring the country and are here in Tamil Nadu for two days. I met them at the party office in T Nagar. The meeting lasted for about an hour.”

He presented the women with Samir Amin’s book titled “Only People Make Their Own History”.

They spoke Spanish and we spoke to them with the help of a comrade who translated for us,” he says.

Dr Aleida Guevara and professor Estefina were happy to learn how much Che Guevara’s ideas and life influenced and shaped the ideology of people in India.

Despite Cuba being a small country (almost the size of Chennai), it opposed and continued to stand up to capitalist giants. People should stay united to fight capitalism, they emphasised.

“Cuba saw 8,000 Covid-19 deaths as against lakhs and crores in other countries. The country developed five effective vaccines to combat the Covid-19 virus. The low death count and the development of vaccines were all possible because Cuba did not privatise its health sector,” the women explained.

The director, who tweeted a picture of himself with Dr Aleida Guevara and professor Estefina, chose to define his meeting with them on Twitter as “one of life’s most important moments”.
