Veteran Malayalam actor Innocent’s condition remains critical

The veteran actor has been admitted to a hospital in Kochi about 2 weeks ago and is on ECMO support. He was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago.

Former MP and veteran Malayalam actor Innocent’s health is in critical condition. He is admitted to a private hospital in Kochi.

The 75-year-old actor has reportedly not been well for some time.

According to a statement issued by the hospital today, 25 March, the actor is presently on Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support. ECMO is a form of cardiopulmonary support where the patient’s blood is pumped and oxygenated outside the body using a machine.

A few years ago, Innocent had been diagnosed with cancer. In 2015, he announced that he was finally free of the ailment.

According to reports, Innocent was admitted to the hospital close about two weeks ago after he complained of breathing issues. His health deteriorated after he had a fall after.

The veteran actor also tested Covid positive thrice in the past three years.

The popular comedian-character artist served as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) for several years.

In a career spanning over four decades, he acted in more than 700 films.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) fielded him as an independent candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Chalakudy.

He defeated Congress candidate PC Chacko. But he lost to Congress leader Benny Behanan while defending his seat in 2019.

Innocent’s cancer relapsed in 2020 and he acted in a few films after recovering.

His latest release was Prithviraj-starrer Kaduva. Pachuvum Albhuthavilakkum is his new movie directed by Anoop Satyan.

He entered the film industry as a producer. But he understood that acting is his area of expertise.

He started his acting career in 1972 with Prem Nazir’s Nrithasala.
