We had told you actors Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvothu were collaborating on the Malayalam film, Ullozhukku.

Known for his acclaimed Netflix true-crime documentary Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case (2023), Christo Tomy is helming this project.

Ullozhukku also stars Arjun Radhakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Veena Nair, and Shebin Benson, among others, in important roles. The makers released an intriguing trailer for the film, suggesting it is a thriller.

Filmed in Alappuzha, the trailer showcases scenic backwaters, juxtaposed with scenes depicting houses flooded during the rainy season.

The trailer hints that Parvathy’s character’s husband has passed away, and his death is shrouded in mystery. There appears to be a disagreement between the characters played by Urvashi and Parvathy.

Urvashi’s character is depicted constantly probing her daughter-in-law about potential secrets she may be hiding.

Ullozhukku’s music is composed by Sushin Shyam. The young musician enjoys a large fan following, with his compositions in recent films like Manjummel Boys (2024) and Aavesham (2024), released this year, trending on music platforms.

High on emotion and thrill

The teaser of Ullozhukku was released last week. It portrays Urvashi’s character as troubled and haunted by family secrets. It features a scene where she implores Parvathy not to address her as “Ammachi” (mother) anymore.

Parvathy posted the first look of the film on Instagram with the caption, “Secrets stir below calm waters!”

Ullozhukku delves into the deceitful dynamics within a family and their repercussions on relationships. The film unfolds in Kuttanad, where a family is compelled to delay the burial of a loved one due to receding floodwaters.

During this waiting period, numerous secrets and falsehoods emerge, challenging the fundamental values and beliefs held by the family.

Ronnie Screwvala, Honey Trehan, and Abhishek Chaubey are producing Ullozhukku under the banners RSVP and MacGuffin Pictures.

The film’s cinematography and editing are by Shehnad Jalal and Kiran Das respectively. The film is scheduled for release in theatres on 21 June.
