Director Jean Paul’s new movie titled Nadikar Thilakam was in the news recently after the lead actor of the movie, Tovino Thomas, met with an accident during the shoot.
Now, the title of the film caused a serious problem for its makers after a complaint has been filed in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.
“Nadikar Thilakam” is a title that refers to yesteryear Tamil actor Sivaji Ganeshan, who had a huge fan base. Even now, his fans’ associations are prevalent in Tamil Nadu.
Sivaji Samooganila Peravai, an association working in the name of late actor Sivaji Ganeshan, filed a formal complaint with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), asking the actor’s body not to allow “Nadikar Thilakam” title for the upcoming Malayalam movie.
In the letter, Sivaji Samooganila Peravai wrote that “Nadikar Thilakam” is the title given by the fans to Sivaji Ganeshan and a comedy film being made under the same name is “shocking and painful not only to the fans but also the Tamilians who love the actor”.
In the letter, dated 24 October 2023, the fans alleged that it was a deliberate attempt by the makers of the Malayalam movie to tarnish the image of the late actor whom the Tamilians loved.
Sivaji Samooganila Peravai also asked the AMMA to cancel permission to use the title for Tovino Thomas’ upcoming film.
Nadikar Thilakam is expected to be a comedy entertainer.
Tovino Thomas earlier stated that the Malayalam movie is not inspired by any real-life characters.
The big-budget film has Bhavana as the female lead.
Dhyan Sreenivasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Lal, Sreenath Bhasi, Veena Nandakumar, Suresh Krishna, Aju Varghese, and Anoop Menon appear in significant roles.
The movie is produced jointly by Mythri Movie Makers and God Speed Productions.
