Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas has a good lineup of films — Nadikar Thilakam, Anweshippin Kandethum, Ajayante Randaam Moshanam, and Identity. All these have high hopes.
In Nadikar Thilakam, the actor appears as a film superstar. It is a big-budget project. However, there is a new twist to this movie.
The title of Nadikar Thilakam has been changed to Nadikar.
Tamil actor Prabhu officially announced the new title in Kochi on Tuesday, 23 January.
All these developments were briefed by Prabhu during the title announcement event.
The actor said he spoke to Malayalam actor Lal, the father of Jean Paul Lal aka Lal Jr — the director of Nadikar.
Sharing his agony with Lal, Prabhu pointed out that the fans of yesteryear actor Sivaji Ganeshan were upset with the original title of the film (Nadikar Thilakam).
When Prabhu asked Lal if the name could be changed, the latter told him that he would talk to Jean Paul Lal.
Lal, who too was present at the event, said he immediately went to Kashmir where the movie was being shot and proposed a change in the title. Jean Paul Lal agreed to change the name after his father told him about Prabhu’s request.
Prabhu revealed that he received a request from the fans of Sivaji Ganeshan to ask the makers of the movie to change the name Nadikar Thilakam.
The actor clarified that there were no issues regarding the new title (Nadikar) as the title was changed after his request.
Later, the first-look poster of Nadikar was launched. The poster has a caption: “Shine on your crazy diamond”.
The poster has a resemblance to a currency note where Tovino Thomas’ face lies in the centre and is highlighted with a mirror.
All the other actors are also shown in the poster.
“Nadigar Thilakam” is a title referring to yesteryear Tamil actor Sivaji Ganeshan who had a huge fan base.
Sivaji Samooganila Peravai, an association working in the name of late actor Sivaji Ganeshan, wrote a formal complaint to AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) asking the actors’ body not to allow the makers to use the name “Nadigar Thilakam”.
In the letter, Sivaji Samooganila Peravai said “Nadikar Thilakam” was the title given by the fans to Sivaji Ganeshan and a comedy film being made under the same name was “shocking and painful not only to the fans but also the Tamilians who love the actor”.
Sivaji Samooganila Peravai also alleged that giving the name was a deliberate attempt by the makers of the movie to tarnish the image of the late actor who is loved by the Tamil people.
Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas earlier clarified that the movie was not inspired by any real-life characters.
Nadikar casts Bhavana as the female lead. Dhyan Sreenivasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Lal, Sreenath Bhasi, Veena Nandakumar, Suresh Kriishna, Aju Varghese, and Anoop Menon are all a part of the film.
It is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and God Speed Productions.
It is expected to be released on 3 May.
