Pongal releases in Tamil Nadu have been going strong as two major films Captain Miller (2024) and Ayalaan (2024) were released on 22 January.

Captain Miller helmed by Arun Matheswaran and headlined by Dhanush had a good lead with the movie having a good pre-sales in the box office. The movie also received a positive response from the audience and critics.

At the same time, Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan also had a good response from the audience and both the movies had a good run.

But Ayalaan had a slow run compared to Captain Miller on its first day. Ayalaan collected around ₹4 crore on its first day and Captain Miller collected around ₹8 crore.

Increase in Ayalaan’s bookings

On its second day, Ayalaan collected around ₹4.85 crore, while on Sunday, 14 January, the movie collected ₹5.65 crore, according to Sacnilk website. On Monday, 15 January the movie collected ₹6.7 crore, which shows an increasing trend in collections of the Sivakarthikeyan movie.

On Tuesday also, the movie got a higher number of online bookings compared to Dhanush’s Captain Miller. Ayalaan has earned a net collection of ₹20.65 crore from India.

According to KJR Studios, the production company, the movie has collected ₹50 crore worldwide.

The word-of-mouth reports and the reviews have helped Ayalaan gain an audience and the movie has all the elements to woo family audiences to theatres. A local flavour given to the Alien is surely a boon to the movie as it connects with children.
