Ooru Peru Bhairavakona director VI Anand

After directing Tiger in 2015, Telugu filmmaker VI Anand has two similar stories for Sundeep Kishan.

“When I pitched the story ideas, Sundeep was excited about the mystery thriller titled Ooru Peru Bhairavakona. After directing Disco Raja (2020), I had enough time to write this story,” he says.

According to VI Anand, viewers can expect not just one but two major twists in his forthcoming flick Ooru Peru Bhairavakona. The Telugu film also has several surprises throughout the screenplay.

“It will be a rollercoaster ride of unexpected twists, audiences can expect a twist every 10 minutes. It will be a thrilling experience. The film would set a new trend,” he quips.

The filmmaker says actor Sundeep Kishan, who never explored the supernatural fantasy genre in his career, is excited about how audiences would receive the film.

“With its stunning visuals and background music, it’s the perfect story to tell on the big screen,” VI Anand adds.

Known for his distinct filmmaking in Tiger, Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada (2016), and Okka Kshanam (2017), VI Anand is confident of making a successful comeback with Ooru Peru Bhairavakona, despite the challenges he faced with Ravi Teja’s Disco Raja in the past.

The director claims that Vennela Kishore’s comedy worked out quite well in the movie.

“There is one hilarious character named Dr Narappa. The fun element of Viva Harsha’s role has been synched well into the story. Also, Kavya Thapar plays a funny and interesting character. There is a lot of good fun along with a few mystery elements in the film. The audience will enjoy it,” he explains.

Philosophical underpinning

During the writing phase of Ooru Peru Bhairavakona, VI Anand did not give much thought to giving a quirky title.

Ooru Peru Bhairavakona was running in my mind. The story has a touch of mythology. It has a theme of ‘karma siddhanta‘ and has elements inspired by ‘Garuda Purana‘. The film has the concept of karma and the journey of the soul after death. This is the philosophical underpinnings present in the storyline,” the director elucidates.

He adds, “Producer Anil Sunkara was optimistic about mounting the film on a bigger scale. So naturally, there is certain pressure involved in the process of filmmaking.”

According to the filmmaker, the production of the film encountered no obstacles. With meticulous planning from the production team, it was a seamless execution when the story went on to the sets.

“Producers Anil and Rajesh invested wholeheartedly in the project after believing in its potential. They provided unwavering support till the completion of the project. With a firm belief in the storyline, every effort was made to deliver an entertaining experience for audiences of all sections. We prioritised both a visual spectacle and story to be a compelling narrative,” he adds.

Ooru Peru Bhairavakona features Sundeep Kishan as the protagonist. He plays the role of Basava in the film.

Kavya Thapar, who plays the character ‘Agraharam’ Geetha, is the female lead.

Varsha Bollamma, Kushee Ravi, Vennela Kishore, Harsha Chemudu, P. Ravi Shankar, and Vadivukkarasi will appear in significant roles in this fantasy thriller.

The Telugu movie is scheduled to hit the theatres on 16 February.
