The day my dad appreciated me was my happiest moment as an actor, says Vikram Ravichandran

He had a quiet debut, though his role in Trivikrama received good response from the critics and the audience.

Vikram Ravichandran, the youngest son of Crazy Star V Ravichandran, also known as the showman for his filmmaking extravaganza, returns with his second project: an out-and-out raw gangster movie.

In an exclusive interview with South First, Vikram Ravichandran talks about his upcoming venture, his take on the recent trends in the film industry, and much more.

“Unlike my first movie, a commercial drama, my forthcoming project will be a complete gangster movie. Directed by Karthik Rajan, the film will feature me in quite a contrasting character with an upgraded look,” says Vikram Ravichandran.

Irrespective of how his debut movie did at the box office, the actor took some time before signing his next.

On the outcome of his first movie, Vikram reveals that he was tense about how the audience would react to his work.

“Though it was a quiet affair, a lot of expectations were riding on me because I am the youngest son of Ravichandran,” he recalled.

“However, my dad — who is always straightforward with his opinion — patted my back and said that the movie could have been better but my performance did not make him feel like watching a newcomer. It was the best appreciation I could ever wish for, especially when it came from none other than the showman whose life is all about movies.”

On latest trends in Sandalwood

About the latest trend in the film industry with Sandalwood breaking boundaries and setting new milestones, Vikram Ravichandran feels that he is entering the industry when a lot of experimentation is on.

Recollecting an incident, the actor shared that during the Eega film event in which his father was the chief guest, director SS Rajamouli said that the day he could picturise a song like Ravichandran, he would be really happy.

“Like my father, I believe that our work should speak. My father’s work and his contribution to the film industry earned him recognition with unconditional love from the audience.”

Unlike in the past, especially during the time of Dr Rajkumar — the demigod of the Kannada film industry — where 100-plus movies for an actor were a usual thing, the number of movies an actor does these days is minimal.

“Even star actors have become choosy. Some even take up just one movie for a year or two,” the actor pointed out.

Though a lot of production houses approach him, Vikram said that he is selective about scripts.

“I leave the rest to the audience. I need to first create a foundation for myself. In the event of doing so, I might fail but I will not fall and just keep working honestly,” he signed off.
