Director Venky Atluri, who is currently working on a film with Suriya, confirmed that a sequel to the 2024 hit Lucky Baskhar is in development.
Directed by Venky Atluri and starring Dulquer Salmaan, the movie was received well with its engaging storyline and impressive cast. Meenakshi Chaudhary stars alongside Dulquer Salmaan, with music by GV Prakash Kumar.
In an interview with Big TV, the director asked if SIR (2023) will have a sequel, Venky Atluri, ruling it out, said that instead Lucky Baskhar will have a sequel.
The movie touted to be a thriller is set in the 90s in Mumbai, against the backdrop of the banking sector, stock market, and money laundering.
Baskhar is a middle-class man, working as a cashier at Magadha Bank in Bombay. He has a family to feed and is struggling to meet the ends with the meagre salary of a cashier. As the movie progresses, Baskhar starts to climb the ladder in his bank, he is promoted and also amasses wealth.
“Lucky Baskhar is a well-made heist drama that has all the elements to be a complete entertainer. Dulquer Salmaan’s performance is a major highlight of the movie,” the review read.
Meanwhile, Venky Atluri is working with Suriya for the film tentatively titled Suriya46.
Produced under Sithara Entertainments banner, the film is set to release in Summer 2026. GV Prakash will be scoring the music for Suriya 46.
Mamitha Baiju is set to play the female lead in the film, which also features veteran Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, marking her return to Tamil cinema after 24 years. Her last Tamil film was Kamal Haasan’s Aalavandhan in 2001.
