Telugu OTT releases this week

Three Telugu movies made their way to various OTT platforms, providing viewers with a variety of entertainment options on Thursday, 12 September. These include Mr Bachchan, Committee Kurrollu, and Aay.

Mr Bachchan, directed by Harish Shankar, features actor Ravi Teja in the lead role and was released on 15 August for Independence Day.

It is based on a real-life income tax raid on industrialist Sardar Inder Singh. Apart from Ravi Teja, the flick stars Bhagyashri Borse, Jagapathi Babu, and Sachin Khedekar.

This Telugu adaptation of the popular Hindi film Raid failed to impress audiences in theatres and received negative reviews.  Following its poor box-office performance, the makers trimmed the movie by 13 minutes but in vain.

Made on a budget of ₹70 crore, Mr Bachchan earned only around ₹7 crore, making it a commercial failure. Despite its shortcomings, the performances of Borse and the music by Mickey J Meyer won the hearts of audiences.

Mr Bachchan is now streaming on Netflix in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Committee Kurrollu

A village comedy-drama, Committee Kurrollu was Directed by Yadhu Vamsi. The Telugu film made its OTT debut on ETV Win. Produced by Niharika Konidela, the Telugu film was a surprise box-office success, grossing over ₹20 crore.

Released theatrically on 9 August, the movie explores the reservation system in India and was shot primarily in Amalapuram and other locations in Andhra Pradesh.

Committee Kurrollu stars a large ensemble cast and features music by Anudeep Dev. With its social message and entertaining storyline, it received positive reviews. The movie is now expected to attract OTT audiences.

Aay

Aay is a village-centric comedy-drama. The film is streaming on Netflix in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Initially slated for release on 15 August 2024, it was rescheduled to 16 August to avoid a clash with Mr Bachchan and Double iSmart.

Starring Narne Nithiin, Nayan Sarika, and Kasireddy Rajkumar, Aay garnered decent reviews from theatrical audiences and critics alike.
