Tabu joins Puri Jagannadh's project

Actor Tabu is all set to join Puri Jagannadh’s pan Indian project. The actor known for her choosing compelling characters is set to star opposite Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi.

While the other cast and crew of the film are not yet revealed, the regular shoot is set to begin in June. It will be released in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Sharing the news on Thursday, 10 April, the makers wrote on X: “She’s electric. She’s explosive. She’s THE TABU. Proudly welcoming THE GEM OF INDIAN CINEMA, Actress #Tabu on-board for a ROLE as DYNAMIC as her presence in #PuriSethupathi.”

Tabu, originally from Hyderabad, had worked in a number of Telugu films like Ninne Pelladatha, Coolie No. 1, Aavida Maa Aavide, Chennakesava Reddy, and Andarivaadu.

Tabu’s last Telugu movie was Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, in which she played the role of Allu Arjun’s mother.

Puri Jagannadh’s last directorial, Double iSmart, and his previous film, Liger (starring Ananya Panday and Vijay Deverakonda for Dharma Productions), both failed to perform well at the box office. However, the director is known for films like Pokiri (2006), Idiot, and Badri (2000)

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi’s last release, Viduthalai Part 2, was a successful film. His other recent films, Maharaja (2024) and Merry Christmas (2024), were also appreciated by the audience and critics.

Directed by Nithilan Saminathan of Kurangu Bommai (2017) fame, Maharaja has emerged as the fastest ₹50 crore-grossing movie in Vijay Sethupathi’s career.

Vijay Sethupathi debuted in Telugu with Uppena, where he played the character of the heroine’s father. Unlike most of his contemporaries, he didn’t have any qualms about playing an older character.
