Puri Sethupathi film starts shooting

Director Puri Jagannadh’s upcoming project, with Vijay Sethupathi in the lead has officially started shooting on Monday, 7 July in Hyderabad. The film is being tentatively referred to as Puri Sethupathi.

The makers are currently shooting the portions involving Vijay Sethupathi and Samyuktha.

The film also stars Tabu, Samyuktha, and Duniya Vijay. However, the crew of the film is now yet known.

Sharing the news, the makers wrote on X: “AND IT BEGINS. The raw and real journey of #PuriSethupathi begins on the sets today in Hyderabad. Major talkie portions featuring Makkalselvan Vijay Sethupathi and fierce Samyuktha are being canned in this packed schedule and will have a continuous shoot.”

Pan India project

On Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, the production house Puri Connects made the official announcement, stating that the project will be a “Pan-India” project.

It will be released in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Puri Jagannadh’s last directorial, Double iSmart, and his previous film, Liger (starring Ananya Panday and Vijay Deverakonda for Dharma Productions), both failed to perform well at the box office. However, the director is known for films like Pokiri (2006), Idiot, and Badri (2000)

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi’s recent releases, Maharaja (2024) and Merry Christmas (2024), were appreciated by the audience and critics.

Directed by Nithilan Saminathan of Kurangu Bommai (2017) fame, Maharaja has emerged as the fastest ₹50 crore-grossing movie in Vijay Sethupathi’s career.

Vijay Sethupathi debuted in Telugu with Uppena, where he played the character of the heroine’s father. Unlike most of his contemporaries, he didn’t have any qualms about playing an older character.

Meanwhile, Tabu, originally from Hyderabad, had worked in a number of Telugu films like Ninne Pelladatha, Coolie No. 1, Aavida Maa Aavide, Chennakesava Reddy, and Andarivaadu.

Tabu’s last Telugu movie was Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, in which she played the role of Allu Arjun’s mother.

Samyuktha is known for her work in Sir, and Virupaksha.
