Primeshow Entertainment bags worldwide theatrical rights for Double iSmart

Producer Niranjan Reddy of Primeshow Entertainment has bagged the worldwide theatrical rights for Ram Pothineni’s upcoming Telugu film Double iSmart for a whopping price. It means the banner will distribute the movie worldwide in five languages—Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Earlier, the production-cum-distribution company bagged the theatrical rights for the flick in South Indian languages. But now, Niranjan Reddy took to social media to reveal that his banner (Primeshow Entertainment) also acquired the Hindi distribution rights for Double iSmart and would release the Ram Pothineni-starrer worldwide in five languages.

Double iSmart is the sequel to the 2019 hit film iSmart Shankar, directed by Puri Jagannadh. The filmmaker wrote the story for the sequel, too. He is producing the movie along with Charmme Kaur under his banner Puri Connects.

The Ram Pothineni film is slated for a release on 15 August. It features Kavya Thapar as the leading lady and Bollywood star hero Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist. Sayaji Shinde, Baji J, Ali, Getup Srinu, Uttej, and Makarand Deshpande form the supporting cast.

Mani Sharma is composing the music for Double iSmart, while Shyam K Naidu is the cinematographer and Karthika Srinivas is the editor.

Mani Sharma’s soundtrack is already ruling the chartbusters. The first single, “Steppa Maar“, is breaking the internet because of its catchy tune and Ram’s fiery mass dance moves. The second song, “Maar Muntha Chod Chinta” is trending at No 1 position on YouTube. However, it landed in trouble after a police complaint was filed against the makers for the unauthorised use of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s popular phrase.

Though the shooting for the pan-India movie commenced in July 2023, the production was delayed due to financial issues. Reports say the makers shot the climax portion in Mumbai at a massive set erected at a cost of ₹8 crore. The film was wrapped up recently and is under post-production.

Meanwhile, Primeshow Entertainment bankrolled Priyadarshi and Nabha Natesh’s latest outing Darling, which failed to impress the audience. Earlier, the banner backed the blockbuster Telugu superhero film Hanu-Man, starring Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Samuthirakani.

Directed by Prasanth Varma, the film is set in a fictional village called Anjanadri. It became a massive hit and grossed over ₹350 crore globally.

Interestingly, Hanu-Man is the first instalment in Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe. Also, it is the second-highest-grossing Telugu film of 2024 after Prabhas-starrer Kalki 2898 AD (which collected over ₹1000 crore and is still running successfully in theatres). Prasanth Varma is currently working on the sequel, Jai Hanuman.
