Prabhas-starrer ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ grosses ₹800 crore globally

The Nag Ashwin directorial became the fastest Indian film to surpass the ₹15-million mark in North America.

Kalki 2898 AD grosses ₹800 crore globally

“The box office is on fire!”—claims the social media post of Vyjayanthi Movies, which bankrolled Prabhas’s latest outing. The actor’s Kalki 2898 AD has grossed over ₹800 crore at the global box office and is inching towards achieving the magical figure of ₹1,000 crore.

The Nag Ashwin film is all set to become the third ₹1,000-crore grosser from the Telugu industry after Bahubali: The Conclusion (2017) and RRR (2022), both helmed by SS Rajamouli.

Besides the ₹800+ crore feat, Kalki 2898 AD became the fastest Indian film to surpass the ₹15-million mark in North America. According to trade analysts, the pan-India film reported an hourly gross of $140,218 from 256 locations across the USA and Canada at 6 am on Saturday, 6 July.

The film also became the fifth highest grosser in North America after Baahubali 2 (₹20.7 million), Pathaan (2023; ₹17.4 million), RRR (₹15.3 million), and Jawaan (2023; 15.2 million).

Further, the Prabhas-starrer also added yet another feather to its cap by becoming the fastest all-time top 3 ₹3 million grosser at the Prasads Imax theatre in Hyderabad.

Celebs shower praises on Kalki 2898 AD

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD is drawing wide appreciation from celebrities across industries, including Rajinikanth, Ranveer Singh, SS Rajamouli, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Abhishek Bachchan, Allu Arjun, Sukumar, Suriya, Karthi, Atlee, Nani, Ravi Teja, Yash, and Varun Dhawan, to mention a few.

Rajinikanth praised Nag Ashwin for Indian cinema to a different level, while Rajamouli said the movie transported him to a different realm with its settings. Abhishek commented that “Prabhas is not a thought but an emotion”, while Ranveer defined the film as an “unprecedented level of finesse in technical execution”.

Allu Arjun termed it an “outstanding visual spectacle”, while Nani said it was an “internationally slick content oriented mythological futuristic sci-fi mass Indian film from the Telugu land”.

Kalki 2989 AD is a sci-fi film with mythological elements set in a dystopian world. It features a stellar cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Shobana, Disha Patani, Anna Ben, and Rajendra Prasad.

Produced by Ashwini Dutt, Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki 2898 AD has music and background score composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The film has been released in IMAX, 2D, and 3D formats.
