Directed by Nag Ashwin, the epic science-fiction film—the first instalment in the planned Kalki Cinematic Universe—is set in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD. It follows a select group on a mission to save the unborn child of lab subject SUM-80, named Kalki.

The director initially intended to complete the story of Kalki 2898 AD in one film. However, with four main characters—Bhairava (Prabhas), SU-M80 (Deepika), Ashwatthama (Big B), and Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan)—he wanted to do justice to each.

With cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic, music by Santhosh Narayanan, and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, Kalki 2898 AD is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies.
