Netizens perceive that ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ director Nag Ashwin made a subtle jab at ‘Animal’

Kalki 2898 AD recently surpassed the prestigious ₹1000 crore mark in Indian cinema, wowing audiences with its outstanding production quality and performances. Some fans compare it to Hollywood films, while others describe Nag Ashwin’s creation as a breathtaking visual spectacle, particularly in 3D.

Referring to the epic sci-fi, as a “milestone”, Nag Ashwin, in a post, shared a new poster of Prabhas as Karna in Kalki 2898 AD, and expressed pride in accomplishing this without resorting to violence, or explicit content. Further, he extended gratitude to the audience, besides the supportive actors.

Instantly, netizens interpreted it as a veiled reference to Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal (2023). However, Nag Ashwin later deleted the post amid controversy.

Nag Ashwin and Sandeep Reddy Vanga appear to have a friendly relationship. Before the release of Kalki 2898 AD, Sandeep even enthusiastically shared the film’s trailer on X, mentioning he watched it thrice and encouraging Nag to celebrate.

In a recent interview, Nag Ashwin candidly discussed his primary goal of recovering the film’s budget at the box office.

He emphasised that exceeding this initial expectation would be a bonus, reflecting the producer’s long-standing commitment to creating meaningful films that resonate with audiences and contribute positively to the industry.

Nag Ashwin, discussing the audience response to Kalki 2898 AD, said, “When a film connects with a compelling story, audiences will flock to see it.”

 Kalki 2898 AD, produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, continues to dominate the box office despite the releases of Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2. Today, on its 17th day since release (14 July), the Prabhas-starrer has amassed over ₹550 crore, solidifying its status, as a recent blockbuster.

Also starring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in key roles, Kalki 2898 AD is currently in theatres.

During its initial two weeks, the film grossed approximately ₹543.35 crore across various languages and has started its third week on a positive note. Additionally, preparations for a sequel are underway, with the team having already completed 30-35 days of shooting.
