Tollywood choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, popularly known as Jani Master, has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting his junior colleague.
The Cyberabad police on Sunday, 15 September, filed a zero FIR, based on the complaint from a 21-year-old woman working with Jani.
According to a report by The Hindu, the woman alleged that choreographer Jani Master sexually assaulted her multiple times during outdoor shoots in Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
She further stated that she was assaulted at her home in Narsingi too. Eventually, the FIR was transferred to Narsingi police.
He was booked under clause (2) and (n) of section 376 (rape), criminal intimidation (506) and voluntarily causing hurt (323) of the IPC, said the police.
Further, the Director General of the Women Safety Wing, Sikha Goel mentioned that she had advised the film industry to conduct an internal inquiry according to the POSH Act.
Apart from being a famous choreographer, Jani Master is a member of Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party. He won the Best Choreography Award for the song Megham Karukkatha from the 2022 film Thiruchitrambalam at the 70th National Film Awards.
Popular in industries across South India, Jani Master is also known for choreographing popular tracks such as “Rowdy Baby” (Maari 2), “Butta Bomma” (Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo), and “Arabic Kuthu” (Beast).
However, this is not the first time, Jani Master has been accused of harassment. In 2019, dancer Satish filed a complaint against the choreographer for harassing him. He had also been sentenced to six months in jail for a brawl in 2015.
