Nagarjuna in Kubera

The makers of the Sekhar Kammula directorial Kubera released a poster of Telugu actor Nagarjuna from the film on the occasion of his birthday, on Thursday, 29 August.

Taking to X, the makers wrote: “Celebrating the birthday of the one and only KING Nagarjuna sir, who will mesmerise you with his cinematic brilliance.”

The poster shows Nagarjuna in a blue button-down shirt, with him waving at someone. Contrary to the first-look poster, Nagarjuna is seen smiling in this one.

Nagarjuna, reportedly, plays an investigative officer in Kubera. The King shares the screen with Tamil hero Dhanush, who appears in the lead in this pan-Indian film.

This role marks a first for Nagarjuna, who is playing a never-seen-before character as the main antagonist.

The first-look poster showed him in a crisp blue shirt and black trousers, holding an umbrella. His character, with shades of grey, will shift the movie’s tone.

On 28 July, the makers also unveiled a poster of Dhanush, featuring him with a slightly dishevelled look. Dhanush is expected to play a beggar who becomes rich.

Nagarjuna was last seen in Naa Saami Ranga (2024)— a Sankranti release, which didn’t fare well at the box office.

Kubera, a social drama set in Mumbai’s Dharavi slums, went on floors earlier this year, featuring Dhanush alongside Jim Sarbh, Rashmika Mandanna, Aparna Balamurali and Sundeep Kishan.

Directed by Sekhar Kammula in his first collaboration with Dhanush, Kubera aims for a December 2024 release.

National Award-winning composer Devi Sri Prasad is scoring the original music for this bilingual film, shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, and will also be released in Hindi. The release date is yet to be announced.

Kammula is known for Telugu films like Godavari (2006), Happy Days (2007) and Love Story (2021)
