Kalki 2898 AD has been a major hit, ruling the Indian box office for nearly a month. Directed by Nag Ashwin and featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the film is rapidly becoming the top blockbuster of 2024.

Entering its fourth week, Kalki 2898 AD surpassed ₹600 crore in domestic earnings. On Day 24, the film grossed ₹5.75 crore, pushing its total domestic revenue to an impressive ₹608.10 crore.

Kalki 2898 AD is Prabhas’s third-highest grosser and the fifth-highest all-time grosser in India, trailing only Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), RRR (2022), and Jawan (2023).

The movie has enjoyed a strong audience turnout, particularly from Telugu viewers, with notable attendance during evening and night shows.

Amitabh Bachchan recently praised the film’s success as a significant achievement. “For Prabhas, crossing the ₹1000 crore mark might be routine, but for me, I’m deeply grateful to be part of the massive project Kalki 2898 AD. I’ve already watched the film four times and discover something new with each viewing, finding details I missed before.”

Despite competition from major releases like Sarfira and Indian 2, Kalki 2898 AD’s performance remains strong. With Vicky Kaushal’s Bad Newz receiving positive reviews, its impact on Kalki 2898 AD’s collections remains to be seen.

Globally, the Prabhas starrer, continues to thrive, reportedly surpassing ₹1000 crore worldwide.

“Nag Ashwin, skilfully, deals with the drama and doesn’t reveal all his cards at once— the backstories are smartly scattered across the narrative to add an element of mystery,” read our review.

Kalki 2898 AD’s script, inspired by Hindu scriptures, centres on the mission to protect the mother of an unborn Vishnu reincarnation destined to save humanity from a rising evil. It also marks the beginning of the Kalki Cinematic Universe. Last summer, the film became the first Indian movie to receive a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, signaling its significance to film enthusiasts, critics, and the press.
