Tollywood actor Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan will hit theatres on 15 August 2024, as announced on 21 July with a new poster showing him in a white suit. The film will clash with Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart. Additionally, Vikram’s highly anticipated Thangalaan, directed by Pa Ranjith, will also be released on the same day, coinciding with Independence Day.

Mr Bachchan, the Telugu adaptation of Ajay Devgn’s Raid (2018), is directed by Harish Shankar and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad.

Mr Bachchan, with the tagline Naam Tho Suna Hoga, features Bhagyashri Borse and Subhalekha Sudhakar in key roles, focusing on a dramatic income tax raid on industrialist Sardar Inder Singh.

Backed by People Media Factory, Panorama Studios, and T-Series, Mr Bachchan marks Ravi Teja and Harish Shankar’s third collaboration after Shock (2006) and Mirapakay (2011).

The makers of Mr Bachchan faced backlash recently over a song sequence when the first single, “Sitar Song,” was released. Netizens criticised the age disparity between 56-year-old Ravi Teja and 25-year-old Bhagyashree Borse.

Mr Bachchan marks the third collaboration between composer Mickey J Meyer and director Harish Shankar, following Subramanyam For Sale (2014) and Gaddalakonda Ganesh (2019). The supporting cast features Sachin Khedekar and Jagapathi Babu.

Ravi Teja was last seen in Tiger Nageswara Rao (2023), a period-action thriller about a notorious thief, and is also awaiting the release of Eagle, written and directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni.

However, Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart, featuring Ram Pothineni, locked in its release date first.

Double iSmart is a sequel to their 2019 sci-fi action film iSmart Shankar, which follows an assassin who aids the police after a slain cop’s memories are transferred to his brain. The film faced controversy with its latest song, “Maar Muntha Chod Chinta.”

A police complaint was filed by senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader Ranjitha Reddy against filmmaker Puri Jagannadh and his team, alleging the song’s use of a phrase spoken by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was disrespectful.

Reddy criticised the song for using the phrase “Em cheddam antav mari” in an “indecent” manner, and called for action against Puri Jagannadh.

The song, which released on 16 July, is the second track from Double iSmart, following “Steppa Maar.”

Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt plays a pivotal role, with Kavya Thapar as the female lead. The cast includes Bani J, Ali, Getup Sreenu, Sayaji Shinde, Makrand Deshpande, and Temper Vamsi. Mani Sharma composed the music, Sam K Naidu and Gianni Giannelli handled the cinematography, and Karthika Sreenivas R edited the film.

Produced by Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur under Puri Connects, Double iSmart will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
