Makers of 'Kalki 2898 AD' sue trade analysts for posting fake BO online. (X)
Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, opened to a strong box office debut on 27 June. Now in its fourth week of release, the Nag Ashwin-directed film continues to perform well at the theatres.
According to the makers, the sci-fi thriller surpassed ₹1,000 crore at the global box office. However, a report in Bollywood Hungama stated that Kalki 2898 AD producers sent a legal notice to trade analysts Sumit Kadel and Rohit Jaiswal for their posts on X, where they shared inflated box office figures.
Reports suggest that Sumit Kadel received the legal notice, while Rohit Jaiswal is expected to receive his by 20 July at the latest.
The trade analysts reportedly alleged on their social media handles that the makers of Kalki 2898 AD were “wilfully putting out fake figures” of the film. Further, their regular posts described these box office figures as “slanderous” and accused the producers of being “cheaters”.
The legal notice demands that Sumit and Rohit disclose their sources for the box office figures they claim are accurate.
“They must also provide daily box office collections with a territorial breakdown to support their claims. If they fail to do so within the given timeframe, they will be liable to pay the producers a ₹25 crore fine for spreading false information. This is why they are dubbed ‘samosa critics,'” reports added.
