MAA representatives meet Telangana DGP

The representatives of the Movie Artists Association (MAA) on Thursday, 18 July met the Telangana DGP Jitender Reddy seeking help in tackling trolls on social media platforms.

The DGP reportedly promised the MAA representatives to look into the issue and assured that a special cell in the Cyber Security department would be formed to look into the issue.

He further added, “Everything has a limit, and the trollers have crossed it.”

Addressing the media later, actor Rajeev Kanakala said, “Trolls should make people laugh. Trolling should not be offensive and degrading. However, these people don’t even leave family members. It is wrong to attack the family members of actors and technicians. From now on,  MAA won’t tolerate trolling against film personalities.”

Dubbing the trolls as “terrorists”, actor Shiva Balaji noted, “We have submitted a list of about 200 YouTube channels to the DGP. He responded positively. Those who commit outrageous trolling will be considered terrorists. The Telangana DGP assured MAA that a special wing in cyber security will keep an eye on trolls.”

Highlighting that female actors face vicious trolling on social media, senior actor Shiva Krishna said, “Women artistes are suffering more due to trolling. They are degrading the character of female actors. Some people are doing this to earn from the engagement through YouTube.”

He further added that even political and cinema journalists are also being trolled.

Following YouTuber Praneeth Hanumanthu’s derogatory comments against children on his YouTube channel, actor Sai Dharam Teja sought police action against him. As the issue gained momentum, MAA president Manchu Vishnu, in a video message, warned online trolls against targeting film artists just to gain social media visibility and profits.

The actor-producer also announced that five YouTube channels were terminated for making derogatory remarks against actors and their family members. He also warned that stern action would be initiated against Youtubers and netizens if they resort to trolling.
