Fans eagerly awaiting the OTT release of Kalki 2898 AD have good news! The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone, is set to stream on OTT platforms within 10 weeks of its theatrical release. While Prime Video has yet to confirm the release, Netflix, which holds the digital rights for the Hindi version, has not yet announced an official premiere date.
The regional language versions will be available on Prime Video, while the Hindi version will stream on Netflix.
Since its release in June, Kalki 2898 AD has been a box-office sensation.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film blends mythology with futuristic sci-fi action and has surpassed the ₹1,000 crore mark globally.

While the film introduces the worlds of Kasi, Complex, and Shambala, it leaves several plot points and character details unresolved. The director addressed these questions at a press conference in Hyderabad, held on the set of Kalki 2898 AD.
Nag Ashwin faced criticism for his dystopian world not depicting enough suffering, despite its lack of resources. However, he explained that this was a deliberate choice to make the film ‘accessible to kids’.
He said, “It was a creative decision to portray Prabhas’s character in a light-hearted way despite the crumbling world. Even in dark times, there is humour, and I wanted to highlight the importance of human relationships.”
The director initially intended to complete the story of Kalki 2898 AD in one film. However, with four main characters—Bhairava (Prabhas), SU-M80 (Deepika), Ashwatthama (Big B), and Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan)—he wanted to do justice to each.

He noted, “There are many action scenes and backstories yet to be explored, which will be covered in the sequel. We still have significant shooting and casting for new characters to complete.”
At the press meet, Nag Ashwin also discussed his interest in adapting Mahabharata. He observed that Telugu cinema often recalls the 1957 film Mayabazar with Savitri, a fictional take on the Mahabharata. He mentioned that Mani Ratnam’s 1991 film Thalapathi, starring Rajinikanth and Mammootty, presents a version of Karna’s story.
Kalki 2898 AD is still showing in select theatres, with tickets available for ₹100 across India as a gesture of gratitude, starting 2 August, for one week.
