On 28 July, Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday, it was announced that he would reunite with the makers of Mahanati (2018) for a Telugu film titled Aakasam Lo Oka Tara.
The title poster was unveiled on Sunday. It shows the actor’s semi-lit silhouette against clouds, with a girl walking through a paddy field below. The film appears to be a feel-good rural drama with emotional elements.
Dulquer Salmaan, known for his work in Malayalam and Tamil films, has equally built a strong Telugu fan base with hits like the Savitri biopic, Mahanati and Sita Ramam (2022).
His next Telugu film is directed by Pavan Sadineni, of Prema Ishq Kaadhal (2013) and Senapathi (2021)-fame.
Aakasam Lo Oka Tara is the first collaboration between Dulquer Salmaan and director Pavan Sadineni, produced by Swapna Cinema and Geetha Arts.
The film will also be released in Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi.
The release date is yet to be announced, and the cast and technical crew details remain undisclosed.
Despite Malayalam being his mother tongue, Dulquer often stars in non-Malayalam films. He mentioned in an interview that he’s open to offers from other industries and enjoys reaching a wide audience.
Though the son of Mammootty, a powerhouse in Indian cinema, Dulquer is recognised for his unique contributions and has carved his path, his growth in cinema has been consistently impressive.
Regarding his work outside the Malayalam industry, Dulquer said, “Sita Ramam has brought new viewers to my work. They are exploring my filmography, which I always seek. I genuinely love cinema and aim to be part of great films, not just chase box-office success.”
Dulquer recently made a cameo as Captain in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. His next Telugu film, Lucky Baskhar, directed by Venky Atluri, is set to release on 7 September. Also starring Meenakshi Chaudhary, the film, features music by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Nimish Ravi, and editing by Navin Nooli.
The teaser of Lucky Baskhar reveals Dulquer as a middle-class banker bored with his mundane life, labelled as a “common, middle-class, Indian man.” A twist shows his character suddenly possessing a lot of money, leaving viewers curious about how Baskhar became lucky.
Meanwhile, the title track for Lucky Baskhar was released, sung by the legendary Usha Uthup. The song blends classic beats with contemporary flair, capturing the essence of the 90s and bringing a nostalgic vibe.

Venky Atluri’s previous film was Vaathi/Sir (2023), starring Dhanush and Samyuktha.
Although he was scheduled to appear in the Mani Ratnam film, Thug Life, which stars Kamal Haasan in the lead, Dulquer had to exit the project for unknown reasons.
He is also co-producing Kaantha with Rana Daggubati.
