Tollywood’s latest romantic comedy Darling is set for its OTT debut. Directed by Aswin Raam, the movie stars Nabha Natesh and Priyadarshi Pulikonda as the lead pair.
Released on 19 July, the film was expected to create a buzz but underperformed at the box office, earning ₹ 2.04 crore in its first week, according to Sacnilk.
Despite its lukewarm reception in theatres, Darling will be available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar starting 13 August.
Announcing the OTT release, Disney+ Hotstar shared a poster and hinted at the fun and chaotic storyline of Darling, showing optimism about its potential to attract viewers online.
The plot centres on Raghav (played by Priyadarshi), who dreams of a honeymoon in Paris but is devastated when his bride elopes on their wedding day. He meets Anandhi (played by Nabha Natesh) and impulsively proposes marriage after sharing his story. She accepts, but their journey unexpectedly turns when Raghav discovers Anandhi’s problems.
Darling was marketed as a relationship comedy, with the trailer featuring a scene that humorously references split personality traits from Aparichitudu (the Telugu dub of Shankar’s 2005 film Anniyan).
Priyadarshi described the film’s humour as a dark comedy, where the characters’ suffering creates entertaining moments for the audience.
Darling also features Ananya Nagalla, Brahmanandam, Vishnu, and Krishna Tej. Produced by Primeshow Entertainment and K Niranjan Reddy, the film received a U/A certificate from the Censor Board due to its sensitive handling of split personality disorder, despite minimal violence or sexual content.
During a media interaction, Aswin Raam explained the U/A rating, “There were no cuts in our film. Although it contains minimal violence or sexual content, it addresses the sensitive topic of split personality disorder. Due to this, the Censor Board gave us a U/A rating, allowing children to watch it with parental guidance.”
The technical crew includes cinematographer Naresh Ramadurai, editor Pradeep E Raghav, and music composer Vivek Sagar.
At the Darling pre-release event, actor Nani announced he would produce a movie with Priyadarshi under the direction of debutant Jagdish.
Meanwhile, Priyadarshi’s upcoming projects include a film with director Indraganti Mohanakrishna. He has several other films in the pipeline.
