R Narayana Murthy hospitalised but stable

Director, actor, writer, and singer R Narayana Murthy was admitted to the state-run NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad due to health issues on Wednesday, 17 July. While it is not yet clear as to why he was hospitalised, the “People’s Star” announced that he was “doing well”.

Reiterating that he was healthy and stable, Narayana Murthy asked his fans not to worry about his health. He said he was coping well with the ongoing treatment at NIMS.

The actor-director-producer further added, “Once I’m completely healthy and out of the hospital, I will speak about the health issues.”

Narayana Murthy is known for his brand of “Erra cinema”, which translates to “Red Cinema” (which is ideologically left-leaning).

Aged 69 years, Narayana Murthy has a glorious career spanning over 40 years. Over these years, he made and acted in movies that spoke of contemporary social problems such as unemployment, capitalism, land issues, and political turmoil.

He also received the prestigious Nandi Special Jury Award for his 1993 film Dandora. He directed, acted and produced the film under his banner Sneha Chitra Pictures.

Interestingly, Narayana Murthy produces most of his films under the same banner.

Born in the Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh, Narayana Murthy started his career as an actor with the Neramu Siksha directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.

Ardharatri Swatantram (1984) was his first venture under the Sneha Chitra Pictures banner.

His other noteworthy films in Telugu are Ardharatri Swatantram, Erra Sainyam, and Veera Telangana. He was last seen in the film Raitanna, which hit the screens in 2021.

In his illustrious career, Narayana Murthy saw peak success for 15-20 years when his films were well-received and became the talk of the town. Many of his films ran successfully for over 100 days in many theatres, celebrating the silver and golden jubilees.
