Telugu watchlist June 2023

After a parched dry season, the Telugu box office is waiting for a refreshing breeze of releases this June.

While the fans of Rebel Star Prabhas eagerly await the release of Adipurush, a few newcomers want to test their luck and make a difference with their content at the box office.

But before the biggie sways on the cash registers, here are a few youngsters who would want to put a brave face against Adipurush this June.

Ahimsa

The Daggubati scion, Abhiram Daggubati, is making his debut with Ahimsa. The Daggubati family has been longing to launch Abhiram on the silver screen for aeons.

Director Teja is at the helm of this film. Apparently, Teja lost touch with the craft and has been out of form for the last five years with a debacle Sita (2019).  Ahimsa is set to release on 2 June.

A romantic action drama, it revolves around a murder mystery and how protagonist Abhiram gets entangled in the case without his involvement.

The latter half of the movie reveals how he wriggles out from the case to prove his innocence.

Teja brought back his lady luck Sadha with whom he created magic 20 years ago with Jayam (2002). But this time, this senior actress plays the role of a lawyer.

Director Teja says that he made the movie with Abhiram to keep the promise that he gave to legendary producer late D Ramanaidu. But the trailer tells that film lacks Teja’s signature touch.

Produced by P Kiran under the banner Anandi Art Creations, Ahimsa features Geethika Tiwary as Abhiram’s love interest. Kamal Kamaraju plays a cop. Manoj Tiger plays the baddie. Rajat Bedi will be seen in a key role. RP Patnaik rendered the music.

Nenu Student Sir

Ganesh Bellamkonda, who comes from the legacy of the Bellamkonda family in Tollywood, will test his luck at the box office with Nenu Student Sir. It’s releasing on 2 June.

The story is about a happy-go-lucky student named Subbarao (Ganesh) who is framed for the murder of Nayak. How this lower-middle-class student, who can’t even afford a smartphone, gets credited an unimaginable sum of ₹1.75 crore in his account and how he comes out clean is the story in a gist.

Avantika Dassani plays the leading lady, while Samuthirakani plays the cop who investigates this mysterious crime. Comedians Sunil, Auto Ramprasad, and Charandeep play key roles.

Directed by Rakhi Uppalapati, the film is bankrolled by Satish Varma who earlier made Naandhi (2021). Mahati Swara Sagar scored the music.

Pareshan

A whacky comedy entertainer, Pareshan reveals the laidback lives in the small coal-producing town named Mancherial in the Singareni region of Telangana.

Starring Thiruveer, Pavani Karanam, Bunny Abiran, and Sai Prasanna in the lead roles, the film narrates the story of a bunch of lazy, good-for-nothing friends, who hop on a rollercoaster ride.

How these youngsters get the shock of their lives before they realise the seriousness of it is the crux of the story. Pareshan reflects the daily routine of the Telangana lifestyle, particularly the milieu of Singareni families, their culture and the dialect in that part of the region.

Although the film is produced by Siddharth Rallapalli, Rana Daggubati is presenting Pareshan in the Telugu States. Interestingly, Pareshan is hitting the screens on the same date (2 June) as Abhiram Dagubati’s Ahimsa.

Directed by Rupak Ronaldson, Pareshan also casts Arjun Krishna, Shruthi Riyan, Buddarakhan Ravi, and Raju Bedigela in key roles. The music is composed by Yashwanth Nag.

Adipurush

The big one in the league for which Prabhas fans have been waiting with bated breath is Adipurush.

Releasing on 16 June, Adipurush is claimed to be the most expensive Indian film ever made with a budget of ₹700 crore.

This most-awaited movie featuring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in the mythological characters of Lord Sri Rama and Sita respectively has long been teasing audiences on various social media platforms.

Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush features Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage as Lankesh (Raavan), Lakshmana, and Bajrang (Lord Hanuman) respectively.

With a runtime of 174 minutes, Adipurush will be released in 3D and Imax formats in Telugu and Hindi along with dubbed versions of Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages.

Although the film’s teaser received flak for its bland work initially, the subsequent release of singles and the trailer have made heads turn.

Produced by T-Series and Retrophiles, Adipurush makers are currently busy closing the pre-release theatrical business first in the two Telugu States. It is learnt that the pre-release business is expected to reach a whopping ₹170 crore alone in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Starring Siddharth and Divyansha Kaushik in the lead roles, this action entertainer Takkar is slated to be released on 9 June.

Siddharth plays a middle-class boy who aspires to become a millionaire. He wants to earn money through illegal means. But has no clue how. What if he unexpectedly bumps into a rich girl is what all Takkar’s trailer suggests.

Directed by Karthik G Krish, the film is getting released simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil.

It is bankrolled by TG Vishwaprasad and Abhishek Agarwal under the banners People Media Factory and Abhishek Agarwal Arts respectively.

The film will have the edge until 16 June. Only if it impresses audiences with good content. Siddharth, who made a comeback in Telugu in 2021 after a long hiatus with disastrous Maha Samudram, now bets big on Takkar.

Abhilasha

Abhilasha is another small-budgeted film with a bunch of newbies, releasing on 2 June. Produced by Ch Sireesha, the film features Amardeep Chowdary in the lead. It is directed by Sivaprasad Chaluvadi.
