YouTube sensation-actor Bijili Ramesh is no more

Actor Bijili Ramesh, known for his viral YouTube prank video, passed away at 9.45 pm on 26 August in Chennai. He was 46 and had been struggling with liver issues.

Despite treatment at a government hospital, his condition deteriorated in recent weeks.

Bijili Ramesh’s family shared, “He passed away in his sleep. He had come home from the hospital two days ago to celebrate his wedding anniversary.”

Reports confirm that Bijili Ramesh received some financial support from colleagues. Months before his death, he had disclosed in a YouTube interview that his liver problems were due to excessive alcohol consumption.

Bijili Ramesh, a devoted fan of Rajinikanth, had hoped to act with him but never had the chance. In the interview, he spoke of his health struggles and the impact on his family, lamenting the lack of awareness about the dangers of excessive drinking.

In a recent interview, Bijili Ramesh’s wife revealed that her husband’s liver completely failed due to alcoholism. “He seemed fine until last month, but then he suddenly struggled to breathe. We first took him to Omandurar Hospital, where he was diagnosed with liver failure and jaundice. After ten days of treatment there, we were transferred to Stanley Government Hospital.”

She continued, “We pleaded with the doctors to save him. They advised us to pray and mentioned that a liver transplant was necessary, but they warned that survival was uncertain even with a transplant. If done privately, the cost would be around ₹60 lakh, which we cannot afford.

“I am left to care for our son and am unsure how to manage after his passing. I urgently appeal for help from anyone in a position to assist us. We are devastated and struggling to find support,” Bijili Ramesh’s wife added.

In 2018, Bijili Ramesh appeared in a special promotional song for Nayanthara and Nelson Dilipkumar’s Kolamaavu Kokila, marking his entry into Tamil cinema.

He later appeared in films such as Natpe Thunai (2019), Sivappu Manjal Pachai (2019), Aadai (2019), Comali (2019), Ponmagal Vandhal (2020), and Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal (2022), as well as TV shows.

The news of his death has deeply saddened Tamil pop culture fans. He is survived by his wife and son. His final rites were conducted near MGR Nagar, Chennai, this evening.
