Mari Selvaraj hints at Vaazhai 2

Director Mari Selvaraj, known for his impactful Tamil films, has opened up about the possibility of making Vaazhai 2—a sequel to his latest release Vaazhai.

The Tamil film, currently running in theatres, is based on the director’s childhood experiences. It garnered widespread acclaim since its release.

At the film’s success event held recently, Mari Selvaraj shared his thoughts about the positive reception of Vaazhai.

Set in a banana plantation in Tirunelveli, Vaazhai sheds light on the lives of the labourers working there. Drawing from his own life, the director used the film as a medium to tell a deeply personal story.

Speaking at the event, Mari Selvaraj reflected on the possibility of continuing the story with a sequel, Vaazhai 2.

Vaazhai was made to convey who Mari Selvaraj is. If you still have any confusion, I will keep making more films to tell my story. There are also possibilities of making Vaazhai 2. There are many more stories to tell, and I will make the sequel with the same cast because there is more pain and stories behind this,” the filmmaker said.

However, he did not specify when the sequel could be expected.

Nikhila Vimal, who played a significant role as a teacher in the film, praised Mari Selvaraj’s direction and shared her joy in being part of the project.

Vaazhai was not only appreciated by critics but also performed well at the box office, grossing close to ₹20 crore.
