Tamil actor-comedian Bonda Mani passes away in Chennai

The noted Tamil actor, who shot to the limelight with director K Baghyaraj's "Pavunnu Pavunudhaan", passed away late on 23 December.

Bonda mani passes away

Renowned Tamil actor Bonda Mani, who shot to fame with director K Baghyaraj’s Pavunnu Pavunudhaan, passed away late on Saturday, 23 December. He was 60.

Bonda Mani is survived by his wife Madhavi, his son Sai Ram and his daughter Sai Kumari.

The actor, who migrated to India from Sri Lanka several decades ago, was undergoing treatment for kidney problems for almost a year.

On Saturday night, Bonda Mani suddenly collapsed at his residence in Pozhichalur in Chennai, after which he was rushed to the government hospital in Chromepet, where he was declared dead.

Sole earning member

His son Sai Ram told reporters, “My dad acted in over 350 films. He had been undergoing treatment for the last year. We have spent all that we had on his medical treatment and there is no other earning member in my family other than my dad.”

While Bonda Mani’s daughter, who is in her first year of college, is continuing her education, his son Sai Ram discontinued his education to support the family.

Sai Ram appealed to the state government for help and said that the last rites of his father were being held on Sunday evening at the Chromepet crematorium.

Several actors and film industry professionals expressed their condolences to the family members of the deceased actor.

Actor Vijayakanth, in his condolence message, said, “I was pained and shocked to hear of the demise of well-known comedian Bonda Mani. He was a good friend who had great love and respect for me. I express my deepest condolences to his family members and friends for their loss.”

Vijayakanth also chose to extend financial help to the family of the deceased actor. On his behalf, actors Meesai Rajendran, Sarapambhu Subburaj and Anagai Murugesan of the DMDK met the family members of Bonda Mani and presented them with financial assistance.
