The highly anticipated period drama hit the screens on 14 November to mixed reviews. While the audience and critics almost unanimously praised Suriya’s performance, many had complaints over the writing and sound design of the film.
With Kanguva being an action drama, director Siva used loud elements in the film to make it more dramatic. However, this technique wasn’t appreciated by many audience members leading to widespread criticism.
The Tamil film features a stellar cast, including Bobby Deol, Disha Patani in her Tamil debut, Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, and KS Ravikumar.
Bobby Deol made his Tamil debut with Kanguva and plays the antagonist. The cinematography was handled by Vetri Palanisamy, and the editing was taken care of by Nishadh Yusuf, while the music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
“Kanguva has an ambitious world set by its director Siva and Suriya delivers an impressive performance. The movie also has stunning visuals and is a technically sound film, but more focus on the story was needed,” our review read.
According to a TOI report, Kanguva grossed around ₹160 crore in 22 days of its theatrical run, and starkly contrasted its production budget of ₹350 crore.
