Marking actor Suriya’s 49th birthday on Tuesday, 23 July, the makers of Suriya 44 (tentatively titled) released a special promo video. Like the earlier announcement, the new glimpse video features Suriya in a menacing avatar, with a cigarette between his lips and a gun in hand, walking towards the camera with his bodyguards.
On 2 June, director Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya shared a video announcing the start of filming of the actor’s 44th film.
The promo video from Suriya 44 features Suriya’s character sitting on a ledge, facing the sea, with suitcases beside him. He turns, giving a cynical smile and an intense look as the camera zooms in.
The star hero sports a retro look with a colourful striped shirt, trousers, a Fu Manchu-style moustache, and a mullet.
Suriya 44 continues the intriguing phase in the actor’s career that began with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram (2022), featuring darker shades. Previously, he only played a good guy. However, in the Kamal Haasan-starrer, he relaxed his ‘no smoking’ policy to portray the villainous Rolex character.
Currently in production, Suriya 44 also stars Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, and Karunakaran in key roles.
With Santhosh Narayanan as the music composer, the crew includes cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, editor Shafique Mohamed, art director Jackson, action choreographer Kecha Khamphakdee, and costume designer Praveen Raja.
The gangster film presents Suriya as ‘The One,’ flanked by a group of followers. The team recently completed a major filming schedule in Port Blair, Andaman.
Karthik Subbaraj co-produces the film under his Stone Bench Films banner with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment.

In other news, the makers of Kanguva unveiled the film’s first single, “Fire song”. Suriyas debut collaboration with director Siva is highly anticipated in Tamil cinema. Produced by Studio Green’s Gnanavel Raja, Kanguva is set to be a major pan-Indian release.
Composed by Devi Sri Prasad, the “Fire Song” is available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages. As Kanguva translates to “fire” in Tamil, the lyric video teases an intense, fiery narrative.
One of Tamil cinema’s most ambitious projects, Kanguva is scheduled for release on 10 October and is produced on a budget exceeding ₹350 crore.
