'Amaran' to release for Diwali on 31 October. (X)
Sivakarthikeyan’s highly anticipated action film, Amaran, has been scheduled for release on 31 October. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film’s release coincides with the Diwali festival.
Amaran marks Sivakarthikeyan’s debut in a biographical drama. The movie is based on the life of the late army officer Major Mukund Varadarajan. It is bankrolled by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures International Productions.
Interestingly, Rajkumar Periasamy previously directed Kamal Haasan in the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil.
The story of Amaran draws inspiration from the book “India’s Most Fearless” by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh.
The 90-second teaser of Amaran, released in February this year, features Sivakarthikeyan portraying Major Mukund Varadarajan, the late Indian Army officer who led the 44 Rashtriya Rifles Cheetah Company.
The teaser depicts Major Mukund preparing his troops for a high-stakes counterterrorism mission amidst escalating terrorism challenges.
Varadarajan was killed in an encounter with militants from Hizbul Mujahideen. He lost his life in April 2014 during a clash with militants in Shopian, Kashmir. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award.
Sai Pallavi plays the female lead Amaran, marking her first collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan. This project also marks the first collaboration between music composer GV Prakash and Sivakarthikeyan.
Additionally, cinematographer CH Sai, editor Kalaivanan, and stunt director Stefan Richter are part of the film’s crew.
Netflix recently confirmed acquiring the streaming rights for Amaran.
Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan is also working on SK 23 with director AR Murugadoss. Actor Rukmini Vasanth, recognised for her roles in the Sapta Sagaradaache Ello-Side A (2023) will star as the female lead.
Sivakarthikeyan’s transformation in Amaran captured significant attention from his fans.
Meanwhile, rumours are circulating about a pivotal cameo by Kamal Haasan in the film, but an official confirmation is still pending.
