Siddharth 40: Sarathkumar, Devayani, Meetha Raghunath, and Chaithra Achar on board

Director Sri Ganesh, known for films like 8 Thottakkal (2017) and Kuruthi Aattam (2022), is set to direct actor Siddharth in his 40th film.

Bankrolled by Arun Viswa of Shanthi Talkies, Sri Ganesh shared the news on social media along with a photo featuring himself with Siddharth and Arun. The announcement was made in May this year.

The maker’s note highlighted that Siddharth 40 (tentatively titled) will present a story with universal appeal and content that resonates across borders.

Sri Ganesh said after focusing on thrillers, he aimed to create an emotional film sans action scenes to explore a new direction as a writer and director.

Joining the ensemble are Meetha Raghunath and Chaithra Achar along with veteran actors R Sarathkumar and Devayani. While Sarathkumar’s latest release was Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, Devayani’s last Tamil film was Kalavani Mappillai (2018).

The film went on floors with the makers organising a pooja ceremony on Monday, 15 July.

Notably, Sarathkumar and Devayani were known for their successful collaborations in the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as Surya Vamsam (1997), Moovendhar (1998), Paattali (1999), Oruvan (1999), Vinnukum Mannukum (2001), Thenkasipattanam (2002), and Samasthanam (2002).

Devayani is set to appear in Jayam Ravi-starrer Genie as well, while Sarath Kumar has projects like Operation Raahat and Mr X lined up.

Meetha was last seen in the 2023 romantic-comedy Good Night. Chaithra is making her Tamil debut with Siddharth 40. She recently appeared in the Kannada thriller Blink (2024). Both actors shared updates on their respective social media platforms.

Siddharth 40 is the second film produced by Shanthi Talkies, following the success of Maaveeran, which celebrated its first anniversary on 14 July.

Siddharth recently appeared in Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 and is currently filming Test with Nayanthara and Madhavan.

He is also involved in a romantic movie titled Miss You, directed by N Rajasekar, recognised for Kalathil Sandhippom (2021). The film stars Ashika Ranganath, known for her roles primarily in Kannada cinema.
