Ace cinematographer Ravi Varman has been inducted as a member of the world’s leading cinematographers’ organisation, the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).
Known for his splendid work in films like Anniyan (2005), Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006), Dasavatharam (2008), the Ponniyin Selvan franchise (part 1: 2022, part 2: 2023), and Indian 2 (2024), Ravi Varman began his career assisting cinematographer Ravi K Chandran.
Ravi Varman made his debut with the Malayalam film Jalamarmaram in 1999 and has since built a career spanning over 25 years. Throughout his journey, he has worked with renowned stars and directors across Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English films.
In Hindi, he did films such as Tamasha (2015), Phir Milenge (2004), Barfi (2012), and Sanju (2018).

The cinematographer has reportedly told The Hindu, “I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to the board of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) for inducting me as a member. Cinematographers from all over the world dream of joining this association. It gives me great joy and pride to be included in a platform where the world’s leading cinematographers who have won awards including Oscars are members. I wholeheartedly thank those who made me realise this dream.”
The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), is a cultural, educational, and professional organization. The society was organized to advance the science and art of cinematography and gather a wide range of cinematographers to discuss techniques and ideas and to advocate for motion pictures as a type of art form.
Sharing the pictures on X, Ravi Varman wrote: “I began my career filled with uncertainty. Life led me to where I am today, and since then, I’ve been carefully planning my steps to discover the true meaning and purpose of my life.”

Ravi Varman was also invited to join the Cinematographers branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2024.
