'Andhagan' teaser launched. (X)
The much-delayed Tamil film Andhagan, the official remake of the Hindi hit film Andhadhun (2018), will be released in theatres in August this year. While sharing the update, the makers also launched the teaser on Saturday, 13 July.
The Andhagan teaser featured actor Prashanth as the protagonist. The film is helmed by his actor-director father Thiagarajan.
In the one-minute teaser, Prashanth introduces himself as a blind pianist. This follows a romantic relationship between his character and the one played by Priya Anand.
Prashanth’s character visits the house of Simran, who plays Tabu’s role in the original. On his visit, he witnesses a murder and tries to report it to the police. While Simran’s character is accused of the murder, Prashanth’s character faces repercussions. What happens next is what Adhagan is about.
Interestingly, the makers seem not to have made any major changes in the Tamil remake.
Andhadhun not only won critical reviews but was also a commercial hit. Sriram Raghavan was the director. It featured Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, and Radhika Apte in the lead roles.
Meanwhile, the Tamil remake has been in the making for some time. It has an ensemble cast of Karthik, Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, Oorvasi, KS Ravikumar, Vanitha Vijaykumar, Leela Samson, Poovaiyar, Besant Ravi, and Mohan Vaithiya. The late actor Manobala played a pivotal role (a police official) in the film.
The music is by Santhosh Narayanan and the cinematography is by Ravi Yadav. The editing is handled by Sathish Suriya. Andhagan is bankrolled by Staar Movies. The makers are yet to confirm the release date.
Andhadhun was remade in Telugu as Maestro (2021) with Nithiin, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nabha Natesh, and Jisshu Sengupta. It was helmed by Merlapaka Gandhi. Owing to the COVID-19 restrictions, the film was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar and it evoked a positive response from the OTT audience.
In Malayalam, the Bollywood film was remade as Bhramam (2021), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mamta Mohandas, Raashii Khanna, and Unni Mukundan. Directed by Ravi K Chandran, the movie was directly released on Amazon Prime Video due to the pandemic.
