Kamal Haasan, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Payal Kapadia invited to the Oscars voting panel

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday, 26 June, announced a list of 534 individuals from various fields of cinema, who have been invited to join the academy as members and be part of the Oscars voting pool.

From India, the prominent names are actors Kamal Haasan, Ayushman Khurrana, and Cannnes Grand Prix winner director Payal Kapadia.

Sharing the list on X, the Academy wrote: “We’re proud to announce our newly invited members to the Academy! Meet the class of 2025.”

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a statement said, “We are thrilled to invite this esteemed class of artists, technologists, and professionals to join the Academy. Through their commitment to filmmaking and to the greater movie industry, these exceptionally talented individuals have made indelible contributions to our global filmmaking community.”

The Oscars are scheduled to take place on 15 March 2026. The nominations voting period runs from 12 to 16 January, with final nominees announced on 22 January. American television host and comedian Conan O’Brien is set to host the ceremony.

Responding to the news, and congratulatory message from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, actor politician Kamal Haasan wrote on X in Tamil, “The invitation from the Oscar organization is a joy, and the congratulatory words from the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu add even more joy. Many thanks.”

Similarly Ayushman Khuranna also wrote on X: “Honoured to be invited to join The Academy and contribute towards celebrating excellence, perfection and disruption. Truly an incredible feeling to represent India, our cinema & culture at The Academy.”

Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity remaining a priority. Of the 2025 invited class, 41 percent are women, 45 percent belong to underrepresented communities, and 55 percent are from 60 countries and territories outside the United States.
